Russia prepares shipment of fertilizers to countries in need

Serguei-Vershinin1
Moscow, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) Russia is preparing two more shipments of fertilizers to send them free of charge to countries in need, said the Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Vershinin.

According to the diplomat, Moscow has already supplied fertilizers free of charge to most-pressed nations, and reminded that the first shipment arrived in Malawi in March.

In addition, Vershinin believes that there is still time to improve the agreement on grain. “We have to take advantage of every day. If it is not done, we will naturally take our own measures,” the official said. “If there are still barriers, if the agreement does not work, then the question is simple: what is the point of applying this agreement? We have spoken frankly about it with our partners,” he said.

A package of documents was signed in Istanbul on July 22nd, 2022 aiming at solving the problem of supplying food and fertilizer to world markets.

The memorandum states that the UN is involved in work to remove restrictions against Russia which prevent the export of agricultural products and fertilizers. Another document prescribes the mechanism for the export of grain from Ukraine-controlled Black Sea ports.

The agreements between Russia, Türkiye, Ukraine and the UN provided for the creation of a quadripartite coordination center, whose representatives would inspect bulk carriers to prevent arms smuggling and provocations. Moscow has pointed out that the second part of the agreement is not being implemented.
