This index represents a historical record, since the previous maximum export was registered in February 2022, and amounted to 3.1 million barrels per day, according to the information from Russian Customs, published on Wednesday by the Vedomosti newspaper.
After the Western countries’ imposition of sanctions in 2022, Russian companies had to redirect the supply of oil and its derivatives toward new markets, according to the manager of the Center for Analysis and Expertise, Ekaterina Krylova.
As a result, India and China became the largest buyers of oil, and the volumes achieved in exports indicate that Russian traders found advantageous alternative routes for their products, Krylova said.
