Pope Francis is hospitalized after a general audience in the Vatican

Vatican City, Mar 29 (Prensa Latina) After a general audience in Saint Peter's Square, in the Vatican, Pope Francis was transferred to the Gemelli Polyclinic, where, according to medical sources, tests were carried out with negative results.

According to an official report released this Wednesday by Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, these are “pre-scheduled checks”, but unofficial sources indicate alleged respiratory fatigue, according to the Avvenire newspaper.

This medium also refers, based on this information, that the pontiff suffered chest pains while he was at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta, for which his personal doctor, Massimiliano Strappetti, indicated that he should be transferred to that hospital.

Strappeti ordered the performance, among other analyses, of a CT scan of the bronchi, the results of which were favorable and cleared up some concerns, but he will continue to be admitted at least until tomorrow, while his commitments for Thursday and Friday have already been cancelled.

Dozens of reporters are on the outskirts of the aforementioned facility, awaiting information on the health situation of Francisco, who remains in a room on the tenth floor, called “dei Papi”, used by him previously for 10 days, when He underwent a colon operation that was performed on July 4, 2021.

This surgical intervention almost two years ago was motivated by diverticular stenosis suffered by the Bishop of Rome, a narrowing of the intestine caused by diverticula and, according to various sources, some symptoms of this pathology reappeared earlier this year.

The pope also suffers from a knee problem that recently forced him to use a cane and even a wheelchair, but a possible orthopedic surgery was ruled out to avoid possible post-anesthetic disorders, such as those he suffered after the 2021 operation.

After the respiratory and cardiac analyses carried out, medical sources from the aforementioned polyclinic indicated that “there should be no cause for concern” in relation to the current health problem of the Supreme Pontiff, the source adds.
