FAO-taller-500x358
Havana, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the Embassy of the Netherlands, organized a workshop for Cuban food producers, an official report said on Friday.

The FAO statement distributed on Friday in Havana added that it was the First Circular Agriculture Workshop with the participation of 20 peasants and other guests, (held on Wednesday).

The objective of the event was to invigorate the skill-building capacities on agriculture, promote the potential of the sector and cooperate in the ongoing development of Cuba’s agri-food system.

The message emphasized that women, men and young people with relevant circular agriculture initiatives in different regions of the country were part of the training within the framework of the International Agroindustrial Food Fair (Fiagrop 2023), which consisted of lectures by Dutch experts and the United Nations.

Present in the event were the Agricultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Cuba and Mexico, Erik Plaisier; Ria Hulsman, a professor of Wageningen University, and FAO Food Systems Policy Advisor Joao Intini, in addition to FAO Representative in Cuba Marcelo Resende, Dutch Ambassador in Havana Eric Strating, Cuban Agriculture Deputy Minister Diosnel San Loys; the director of International Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG), Orlando Diaz , and the rector of the Agrarian University of Havana, Antihus Alexander Hernandez.

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption that involves sharing, renting, reusing, repairing, renewing and recycling existing materials and products as many times as possible, to create added value.

This working method takes into account products, services, waste, water and energy, in order to improve the use and, especially, reduce the impact on sustainability.
