Cuban Major League Baseball player proud to play in the Classic

Luis-Robert-Jr
Washington, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The Chicago White Sox outfielder in the US Major League Baseball, Luis Robert Jr., on Friday expressed satisfaction with his participation in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), at which he played with the Cuba team.

It’s everything I could imagine, it was pretty special representing my country, Robert Jr. told the Chicago Sun Times.

During his first experience with the national team in the major international baseball tournament, the center fielder batted .259, with a double and four RBIs in six games, and stood out for his defense and speed.

Born in the eastern Cuban province of Guantanamo, Robert Jr. also praised the level of competition and the excitement of the games, which he compared to playing in the Major League Baseball playoffs.

He just felt different because, in the tournament, you are representing your country and you know that everyone is watching and supporting you, he said.

In this regard, he acknowledged that the burden he felt on his shoulders is heavier because it is his nation of origin.

Robert Jr. joined the Cuba team, along with his White Sox teammate Yoan Moncada, who was selected to the World Classic All-Star team after hitting .435 with one home run and five RBIs.

Both players returned to White Sox training camp to prepare for the 2023 Major League Baseball season, where they expect to perform well and help their team go far.

In addition to these two players, the Cuban team, which returned to the semifinals after 17 years, also included Roenis Elias, Yoenis Cespedes, Andy Ibañez, Lorenzo Quintana, Luis Miguel Romero, Elian Leyva, Onelkis Garcia and Ronald Bolaños, who do not have permanent residence in Cuba.

The team’s management, headed by Armando Jhonson, underscored the perfect communion of interests among all players.
