The Russian representation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry, Denis Manturov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, said a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

The talks focused on strengthening economic relations through various bilateral mechanisms, such as the Joint Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the two nations, which is holding its 13th session in Cairo.

The meeting also addressed the issue of Russian investment in Egypt and the promotion of joint projects, especially the Dabaa nuclear plant, which is being built on the northern Egyptian coast, and the establishment of Russia’s industrial zone in the economic zone of the Suez Canal.

The parties discussed collaboration in the field of grain and food supply in general in the face of the global crisis in the sector.

Russia is one of the world’s leading cereal producers and Egypt tops the list of global wheat importers.

Earlier this month El-Sisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, had had a telephone discussion over the ways to overcome the global food crisis which is affecting Africa in particular.

According to official data, trade between the two nations reached 4.7 billion dollars in 2021.
