Local authorities seek to increase power supply to cover local demand, which was limited for months given deficit in the capacity of the national grid.
Such a benefit will become reality once the floating power plant and its energy resources are synchronized with Santiago de Cuba´s power grid, Sierra Maestra newspaper reported.
This floating power plant allows maintenance of other thermoelectric power plants, contributes to increasing the national reserve, and substitutes the use of diesel, one of the most expensive fuels for electricity generation.
Lázaro Guerra, technical director of Cuba’s Electrical Union (UNE), talked about these floating power plants with a 110 MW. A similar one previously docked in Havana port and joined the National Electrical System (SEN).
The floating power plant in Havana is the seventh one of its kind in the country; three are placed in Havana, and three other in Mariel port, Artemisa province.
With this new floating power plant, Cuba will e able to increase its power capacity, supported by these tools operating since 2019, thanks to an agreement with Karadeniz Holding.
