Bogdanov stressed the need for a close dialogue between Russia and Türkiye for the sake of a prompt solution to the situation in Syria “in accordance with the principles of international law and the agreements reached in the Astana format.”
Both diplomats also discussed the socio-economic situation in Syria and the humanitarian aid to those affected by the series of devastating earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye.
Bogdanov also informed the journalists that the possibility of holding a meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia, Syria, Türkiye and Iran is being studied.
The first negotiations between the defense ministers of Türkiye and Syria in the last 11 years were held in December 2022.
A civil war broke out in Syria back in 2011. Türkiye, which had close relations with Syria before the conflict, sided with the opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Relations between the two countries became complex, but in recent weeks both parties and certain medias began to talk about the possibility of normalizing them.
