Dominican politician Miguel Mejía pleased with visit to China

Beijing, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) The general secretary of the United Left-wing Movement of the Dominican Republic, Miguel Mejía, today expressed satisfaction with his visit to China, as it allowed him to resume contacts with the Communist Party (CCP) and strengthen diplomatic ties.

In an interview with Prensa Latina, the also Minister of Policies for Regional Integration stated that his stay was profitable and he reviewed with his interlocutors issues such as the results of the recent CCP Congress,and international situation, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In Mejía’s opinion, a bilateral and regional relationship with the China is beneficial in all aspects, after estimating that in the short-term it will become the first economic power it is also a member of important platforms such as the UN Security Council and is the most populated country in the world. In addition, he highlighted, among China’s contributions, its intention to break with a unipolar world.

To have an ally with these characteristics in commercial and diplomatic terms, who places itself beside the countries that seek their self-determination and independence, is not at all despicable’, he said, while denouncing that the United States is reorganizing an offensive against those who develop a policy different from that hegemonic and dissociating vision of Washington.

On the other hand, the politician said that his visit sought to strengthen diplomatic ties in view of the celebrations for the fifth anniversary of its establishment on May 1st.

Mejía referred to the willingness of both parties to consolidate ties, stressing that his country has already become China’s leading trading partner in the Caribbean and Central America, but also advanced contacts in areas such as culture and politics.
