An amendment came into force as of Wednesday, March 1, according to which Ukrainian refugees living in collective accommodation facilities in Poland and whose stay in the country exceeds 120 days, will have to cover 50 percent of the cost of accommodation and meals or for more than 40 zlotys (nine euros) per day.

Meanwhile, from May 1, refugees whose stay exceeds 180 days will cover 75 percent of those costs or more than 60 zlotys (13 euros) per day.

More than one million war refugees from Ukraine are living in Poland. The payment for accommodation in collective places affects 80,000 of them, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Pawel Szefernaker said.

According to the government official for Ukrainian refugees, similar regulations have been in force since June for those who lived with Polish families.

The new regulations were publicly known in September 2022, although they only became certain when President Andrzej Duda signed the act on January 23, Szefernaker added.
