Local activists quoted by the SANA agency indicated that a mine planted by the terrorists of the Islamic State (Daesh in Arabic) exploded under truck carrying dozens of workers who were travelling to collect truffles in the desert area of Kabayeb, in the southwest of Deir Ezzor.

Ten people were killed and another 12 were injured on February 27th by the explosion of two explosive charges in the Syrian province of Hama, nearly 200 kilometers north of Damascus.

The Syrian delegate to the United Nations agencies in Geneva, Husam al-Din Alaa, recently revealed that the Syrian Army managed to deactivate more than 180,000 mines and other explosive devices.

The diplomat denounced that the foreign occupation and the presence of such groups in some regions block access to demining work.

However, despite all the obstacles, the Army defused over 50,000 explosive devices, 84,000 unexploded ordinance and 45,000 mines of various types, and cleared more than 55,000 hectares, the official revealed.

According to the most recent data from the UN department dealing with mines in Syria, about 15 thousand people were killed or injured from 2015 to 2022, that is, about five per day.
