Prensa Latina participates in a seminar in Prague on Julius Fucik (+Photo)

Prague, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina is participating as a speaker in a seminar that began on Wednesday in this capital and is dedicated to Czech journalist Julius Fucik, who was assassinated by the Nazis in Germany in 1943.

Martha Andres Roman, Prensa Latina’s International Newsroom editor, gave a lecture about the life and work of the Czech communist as a reference for young Cubans who are passionate about journalism.

She recalled her moments at university, where Fucik’s work “Report from the Gallows” gave them the opportunity to learn about a text that constitutes a legacy for the following generations of journalists, particularly for those committed to social and political processes.

In her presentation, Martha Andres establishes a parallelism between the life and work of Cuban hero Jose Marti, his sacrifices and dedication to the independence ideals of his homeland, with the values and ideals demonstrated by Fucik as a journalist and a revolutionary.

The lecture also referred to the opinion of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, about Fucik, whom he described as an inspiration for the combatants, who had studied his work and had considered him a model to strengthen their spirits in the face of the risks of the fight.

Fucik was born in this capital on February 23, 1903. He studied Philosophy and was an editor of social and cultural articles that were published in Rude Pravo and in the magazine Tvorba, affiliated to the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, of which the journalist had been a member since 1921.

Panelists from the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, China and Cuba are participating in the event, which is sponsored by the Center for Left Studies, associated with the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia.
