Türkiye: Death toll climbs to over 29,500

Ankara, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) Death toll from the earthquakes hit the southeast of Türkiye jumped to 29,605, while the number of injured exceeded 80,000, Türkiye's Emergency Management Agency reported Sunday.

Following a six-day search, hopes of finding survivors under the rubble are running out.

Official data report that some 6,000 buildings came crashing down during the earthquake. Public Prosecutor’s Office established a special team to investigate (gross) negligence in the infrastructure construction.

Türkiye Vice President Fuat Oktay said on Sunday over 110 arrest warrants for those responsible for not complying with the standards established in the building design have been issued.

World Health Organization (WHO), on the other hand, stated that nearly 26 million people were affected in some way by the life-threatening earthquakes that shook Türkiye and Syria recently.
