Cuba: LatAm, Palestinian students send solidarity to Syria

Havana, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) Syrian, Palestinian and Latin American students on Thursday expressed their solidarity and support to Syria after deadly earthquake that shook that country and Türkiye.

In an event organized at the Syrian embassy in Cuba, the students condemned the impact of sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union on Damascus, which prevent the arrival of international medical aid ahead of the devastating effects caused by the earthquake.

The students pointed out that Syria, despite having faced an over 10-year war, managed to rise up and this time will be no different.

Meanwhile, journalist Graciela Ramirez, on behalf of Contexto Latinoamericano magazine, expressed her sorrow.

Ramirez “called the U.S. government and the European Union for a truce so that medicines and solidarity be sent to the Syrian people who have so much suffered after a terrible war”.

Syrian ambassador to Cuba Ghassan Obeid thanked those present for their support to his country and condemned the coercive measures applied by “countries that call themselves protectors of human and international rights, however, they are the ones who violate them the most”.

“Thanks to my country´s friends we have doctors, medicines and equipment to assist the Syrian people and rescue lives,” he stressed.
