The leader of the Tupac Amaru group was arrested in 2016 for allegedly inciting violence when leading a protest in the province of Jujuy against changes imposed on the cooperative program by Governor Gerardo Morales.
Currently, she is under house arrest, but the authorities of that territory request that she be transferred to a common jail and reject the requests of her doctors to take her to a specialized medical center to be treated for episodes of deep venous thrombosis. According to Página 12, members of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights (APDH), feminist organizations, legislators, academics, and trade unionists signed a document in which they list elements that support the request for Sala’s release.
Her detention was unduly prolonged with abusive preventive prisons and a series of new cases promoted by Morales, which were denounced as irregular at the local and international level, the text indicates.
Said framework clearly linked to the governor’s manifest enmity with the Tupac Amaru group is an example of the so-called lawfare, that is, the use of the judicial power to persecute political and social opponents, she adds. In addition, he warns about the deterioration in the health of the social leader, who also recently suffered the death of her son Sergio.
It is no coincidence that a humble woman, from indigenous peoples, is not allowed attitudes of strong confrontation with political and economic power. (…) After seven long and painful years of effective and home prison, of permanent stigmatization, we ask for the signing of the pardon or any other instrument that allows her immediate release, she concludes.
The document was signed by the researcher, sociologist and historian Dora Barrancos, the deputy of the Frente de Todos Mara Brawer, the vice president of the APDH María Elena Naddeo, and the founder of the National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe and Free Abortion, Martha Rosenberg, among others.
The request is added to one made recently by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and members of the Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo.
