The official’s three-day stay is aimed at discussing peacekeeping issues in the country and the region, and also addressing the work of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
Lacroix will hold meetings with the interim prime minister, Najib Miqati, and the head of Parliament, Nabih Berri, and other senior Lebanese officials.
The envoy will hold talks with the leaders and militaries in Naqoura, the headquarters of UNIFIL, in the south of the nation, in addition to holding meetings with civilian personnel, and visits along the Blue Line, the border established by the UN.
The General Secretary presence will take place in the midst of a joint alert on the border, after Israel carried out engineering operations in the area to improve its defenses, according local reports.
The Lebanese Army deployed its patrols and in more than one occasion prevented Tel Aviv’s attempts to violate the Blue Line with its bulldozers and personnel.
Lacroix’s tour of the region is taking place in the context of the 75th anniversary of the first peacekeeping mission in 1948 in Jerusalem.
