In the last two weeks, many provinces in this country witnessed cold weather, with the central region of Ghor as one of 34 Afghan regions which have seen temperatures dip as low as minus 33 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
Mohammad Nasim Muradi, head of Afghanistan’s meteorological office, said this winter is by far the coldest in recent years.
Residents in different Afghan regions say this season’s frosts are unprecedented.
They stress that poverty and unemployment are the leading causes of increased casualties during the cold season, Tolo News reported.
