In a statement released to the state-run ACNC news agency, Jo Chol Su, director general of the DPRK Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, disapproved António Guterres’ recent criticism to the UN Security Council (UNSC) regarding DPRK’s policy of strengthening its nuclear capabilities.

During his speech, Guterres described the DPRK’s self-defense program as illegal and an obvious and existing danger.

Jo Chol Su stressed Guterres is not free from what he considered an unchanged, biased and out-of-common-sense thinking on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, which he deeply regretted.

The Korean official reaffirmed that the DPRK is presently developing its self-defense capability in its just right as an independent UN member country and also urged Guterres to first question Japan, a nation stipulated as an enemy of the UN Charter, for becoming a military power.

Plus, Guterres should explain why the United States, the first in the world in possessing nuclear weapons and military expenditures, has extraterritoriality on the UN scenario, he said.

Jo Chol Su reiterated Pyongyang’s call to deal with the Korean Peninsula issues with impartiality, objectivity and based on the principles governing the functioning of the international body.

He warned once again the U.S. is steadily introducing nuclear strike means to the Korean Peninsula and the region, a fact that increases insecurity in the area, while stressing the main factor of disorder in the world is coercion, arbitrariness and violation of international law by the United States and allies.

The world will not be able to get out of this situation as long as Washington’s biased behavior remains intact, which in order to keep its hegemonic stance flagrantly violates the principles of the UN Charter on equality of authority, respect for sovereignty and non-intervention in internal affairs, he added.
