According to the Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, the 69-year-old individual, arrested after the attack in the 10th arrondissement, first went that day to the French town of Saint-Denis, but decided not to act there because there were few people, and went instead to the Enghien street, where a Kurdish cultural center is located.
The defendant reproaches the Kurds for imprisoning members of the Islamic State (Daesh), instead of killing them, the authority said.
Beccuau also pointed out that the attacker suffers – in his own words – from depression and suicidal thoughts, in addition to the desire to kill migrants and foreigners after a robbery at his home in 2016.
The individual was transferred yesterday to an infirmary after medical experts diagnosed that his health condition is incompatible with confinement, pending new evaluations that determine the future of the ongoing investigations for murder, manslaughter, aggravated violence and racist acts.
Medical sources assured that the persons wounded during the shooting are out of danger.
The French political class condemned the attack, and sectors of the left linked the action to the threat represented by the acceptance of far-right ideas in society.
The culprit was released from prison on December 12th under judicial control and under, at least, two ongoing processes, the most recent of which was related to the attack on migrants using a saber in Paris a year ago.
