According to the Health Ministry, Syria´s major goal is to immunize all people regardless of their ages in the provinces of Aleppo, Hasakeh, Raqa and Deir Ezzor, the most affected regions.
Syria´s Primary Health Care Director Razan Tarabishi reported that the oral vaccination campaign is being implemented in 63 health centers and 685 mobile health units.
The oral vaccine is safe and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), and was used worldwide successfully and effectively.
Syria recently received two million doses of oral cholera vaccine provided by WHO, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Global Vaccine Initiative.
According to health authorities´ latest report, Syria´s overall cholera toll amounted to 1,556, while deaths reached 49.
Major cause of death continues to be the delay in receiving medical attention at health centers.
