China’s Special representative on the issue, Xie Zhenhua, expressed at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, ” that complying with this commitment is fundamental for the improvement of trust between North and South, facing the grave challenges posed by extreme weather events.
Xie stated that the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and the mechanism of nationally determined contributions are still ‘an inevitable choice’ to overcome climate challenges.
He called to expand solidarity, multilateralism, and cooperation in the face of the world’s energy and food crises, assuring that China will follow the path of green development with pragmatic and persistent actions on the environmental issue.
Xie reiterated Beijing’s commitment to carbon neutrality and called on the rest of the international community to make more efforts in this area as well.
The COP27 summit opened on Sunday with an agreement to discuss financing for loss and damage to developing countries due to this scourge.
