As reported by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom, Fletcher, from the Plaid Cymru nationalist party, presented a motion in which he highlights that 185 countries voted at the UN General Assembly on November 3 to eliminate this unilateral measure and that only the United States and Israel decided to keep it in force.
The text points out that the inhumane policy imposed by Washington for six decades has caused acute shortages of food, medicine and fuel in Cuba.
At the same time, he acknowledged that despite these difficulties, Cuba shows great achievements in health care and education, which, he pointed out, are recognized by international institutions such as UNESCO and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Fletcher, who represents the South West Wales constituency, also called on the local self-government to establish ties with Cuba in areas of mutual interest.
The motion of solidarity with Cuba has so far been endorsed by 10 of all 60 deputies that make up the Welsh Parliament, including several members of the Plaid Cymru group and the Labor Party.
