After ten days of talks, the government and the TPLF signed a 12-article agreement to mark the way toward the end of a conflagration that started two years ago.

Words of hope for the settlement and the joint communiqué are flooding social media and media forums in Amharic, English, Tigrinya, and every language spoken in the nation.

The document, signed in Pretoria, assures that the government will enhance its collaboration with international agencies to expedite humanitarian aid and implement measures to ‘ensure accountability, truth, reconciliation, and healing.’

“We urge Ethiopians in and outside the country to support this agreement, stop the voices of division and hatred, and mobilize resources to recover the economy and social ties,” it adds.

On November 3, 2020 evening, the TPLF stormed the Northern Command, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched a military operation on the morning of November 4 to restore order in the region.

Until this accord was signed under the auspices of the African Union, the federal authorities accused the TPLF of obstructing government efforts to end the contest peacefully and respond to the resulting humanitarian crisis.
