Egypt and UN highlight importance of climate summit

Cairo, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the United Nation´s General Secretary, António Guterres, pointed out the importance of the climate summit (COP27), which will begin in this country next week, an official source reported on Wednesday.

Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady stated in a communique that El-Sisi and Guterres held a meeting in Algiers on the sidelines of an Arab League summit taking place there.

According to the text, El-Sisi affirmed that his country, as host of COP27, will work on adopting a comprehensive vision to push up global commitments on climate challenges.

The president also said that the plan will take into account the needs of nations with fewer resources and the capabilities of developed countries.

Guterres, on his behalf, expressed the hope that COP27, to be held in the resort of Sharm El-Sheikh from November 6-18, will become a defining summit on the issue.
