Sweden’s statements are good, but until they are implemented, they are not enough, Celik stated, quoted by SVT.
The announcement came shortly before Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s visit to Türkiye, where he will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the Nordic country’s membership in the military bloc.
During the week, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also expects to travel to Ankara to meet with the Turkish president.
Erdogan has repeatedly expressed his demand to extradite 73 citizens from Suecia and Finlandia whom local authorities consider they are suspected of engaging in terrorist and subversive activities against Türkiye.
After this requirement is fulfilled, we can say that Türkiye supports Sweden and Finland joining NATO, Ankara repeatedly stressed.
