The President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, assured that completing the dispute file constitutes a technical work without any political dimension or effects that contradicts Lebanon’s foreign policy in its relations with Tel Aviv.
Less than three days before the end of his mandate, the head of state reaffirmed that Lebanon obtained its rights of benefiting from its economic zone in the sea and explained that the southern reaches are now stable.
According to the description of the US mediator, Amos Hochstein, the demarcation agreement confirming Lebanon’s accession to the fields in national waters is safe and secure, and said that Lebanon will become an oil- and gas-producing and exporting state after completing the works in the southern fields, starting with Qana.
The vice-president of the parliament, Elias Bou Saab, one of the members of the delegation in indirect talks, explained details of the negotiations, their difficulties and the strength of Lebanon represented by the unity of position. He also said that the presence of Hamas constituted a strong ingredient in the demarcation file with Tel Aviv; and as he said: “these words may please some and annoy others, but it is the truth”.
