Three groups departed from north of Lebanon early Wednesday towards the neighboring country, through the border points of Masnaa, Arsal, and al-Aboudia.

According to the Lebanese General Security agency, about 6,000 Syrian refugees will return to their home nation in the coming days and may transport whatever they wish.

One of the trips to the Lebanese-Syrian border was led by acting Social Affairs Minister Hector Al-Hajjar, supported by the army intelligence in northern Bekaa. The General Security agency registered, audited, and verified the names of the returnees.

According to Abbas Ibrahim, director of Lebanon’s General Security agency, about 540,000 Syrians have voluntarily returned home from Lebanese soil since the return plan started in 2017.

United Nations reports refer that nine out of ten Syrian refugee families live under extreme poverty line in different host communities in Lebanon facing a worsening economic crisis and struggling to pay for electricity, water, education, health, and food.
