India imposes million dollar fine on Google for abusive practices

India Google multa
New Delhi, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Competition Commission reported today that it imposed a fine of over 161 million dollars on Google for "abusing its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android mobile ecosystem".

The tech giant was accused of making “one-sided deals” with smartphone makers to ensure dominance of Google Chrome, YouTube, Google Maps and other applications.

The regulatory body pointed out that this practice limits the entry of other competitors into the market.

According to the Commission, all of these practices are aimed at ‘increasing users on their platforms to engage with their revenue-generating service’.

At the moment, Google has not issued any communication in this regard.

On the other hand, the General Court of the European Union confirmed last September the historic fine that Brussels imposed on Google in 2018 for forcing its search engine and browser to be installed on Android devices.
