The representatives of the member states of the organization criticized Truss’s project in a joint statement.
Said statement cites several UN Security Council resolutions that reject unilateral measures aimed at changing the legal and historical status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Arab League questioned the lack of interest of the Israeli authorities to relaunch a new peace process “based on international resolutions”.
It also reaffirmed its support for Palestine to face the Tel Aviv government’s attempts to change the identity of Jerusalem.
The organization’s secretary general, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, rejected last week the plans announced by the British prime minister.
Aboul Gheit urged London to adopt practical policies to support the restart of a peace process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
Shortly before, the Palestinian head of government, Mohammad Shtayyeh, also questioned Truss’s project, after recalling Britain’s colonialist past.
