The opening ceremony was held at the Al-Jalaa Sports Complex in Damascus and included the parade of 123 athletes, some are from Iraq, in addition to sports and artistic performances that reflect the sacrifices of those injured and their unwavering will to continue living.
The athletes compete in swimming, physical strength, athletics, badminton, table tennis, and basketball, among other sports disciplines.
According to Deputy Defense Minister Mahmoud Abdel-Wahab Al-Shawa, the athletes chose according to approved criteria and classifications for sports and the importance of these games to enhance the participation of the wounded personnel in society and consolidate their presence.
Firas Mualla, head of the General Sports Federation, praised the spirit of the athletes, who mostly lost parts of their bodies in battles to defend their homeland and now demonstrate their will to move forward and achieve success.
Tens of thousands of Syrian military personnel have been injured since the war began in this Arab nation in 2011.
