The four laws were approved, in a first reading by the members of the Federation Council, the TASS news agency highlighted on Tuesday.
Under the law, residents of these regions are recognized as Russian citizens from September 30th, when those territories were incorporated into Russia, and have one month to submit applications to renounce Russian citizenship.
It is also specified that acquiring the citizenship is possible on condition that they submit an application and take the due oath.
Referendums on joining the Russian Federation were held between September 23rd and 27th in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and the Ukrainian provinces of Kherson and Zaporozhye, with an overwhelming majority of votes in favor.
On September 30th, at a ceremony in the Kremlin Palace, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the accession treaties together with the leaders of the four regions.
These documents were ratified first by the Duma (lower house of Parliament) and then by the Federation Council.
