The Broad Front senators issued a statement endorsing this position, and highlighted how year after year the United Nations General Assembly continue backing a resolution calling for the end of the blockade.

The legislators decided to make their statement on the occasion of the 77th session of the UN general assembly, where Cuba will once again present a draft resolution on the subject for the thirtieth consecutive time.

The group of senators expressed their “absolute rejection of the sustained blockade that is maintained on Cuba and their defense of the principle of self-determination and non-interference.”

They also reiterated “the request to the United States to remove Cuba from the list of countries sponsors of international terrorism, a list it was added to back in 2021 in one of the last administrative acts of Donald Trump’s government.”

The Broad Front called on the international community to collaborate in solidarity with the Cuban people and eliminate the blockade in full respect of international law and international conventions in force.

The statement vindicates the historical position that Uruguay has had on the subject, “always aligned with the feelings of the great majority of countries that have condemned the blockade.”
