Matanzas Defense Council Chair Susely Morfa said the most important thing is to safeguard human lives and economic resources.
For such a purpose, Matanzas authorities are currently focusing on evacuating flood prone areas by taking close monitoring of soils and dams which have been previously affected by some other meteorological events.
According to the Matanzas Defense Council Deputy Chair Mario Sabines, the province is presently providing good protection for machinery such as agricultural equipment to mitigate the loss of material resources, while guaranteeing health personnel service in far-flung regions.
Guaranteeing the food basket sale and operation of energy units in food-producing facilities as well as safeguarding animals, crops are among the actions taken by the province with the purpose of facing up Hurricane Ian, Sabines said.
Since 08:00 local time, Cuba´s National Staff for Civil Defense (EMDC) has issued Cyclone Warning for western provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos and the Special municipality of the Isle of Youth.
