The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced in a statement that these actions are carried out under the protection of the armed forces of Israel. It also accused Israel of closing the door to dialogue and betting on violence.
The institution noted that 15 Palestinians were injured as a result of yesterday’s attacks by extremist settlers in the West Bank town of Hawara.
Two Israeli legislators criticized last week the violence exercised by settlers against civilians in the occupied territories and denounced the involvement of the press and the Government with that strategy.
“Settlers invade, attack and pose as victims,” MP Aida Touma-Sliman wrote on Twitter. Parliamentarian Ofer Cassid, of the leftist Hadash party, stated for his part that “the cooperation between the terrorism of the settlers and the occupation forces is becoming stronger.”
In a report released last January, the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem) warned that settler violence is another method used by Israel to control land on the West Bank.
“They carry out a variety of acts including physical assaults, stone throwing, threats and harassment, damaging trees and crops, vandalizing cars, blocking roads and even firing live ammunition,” B’Tselem denounced.
