In two communiques issued this Sunday, both unions called to defend the pay rise for health employees in Costa Rica.
The wage adjustment agreed by the CCSS’s Board of Directors two weeks ago was based on technical, legal, and constitutional criteria, in the Labor Code, the autonomy constitutionally attributed to that institution, and announcements from the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy, UNDECA states.
Ramos’ dignity in defending that pay rise for CCSS employees far exceeded the submissive behavior expected by the Costa Rican president, and he and his obedient Governing Council, whose salaries were hiked, ordered his immediate dismissal on Saturday, it points out.
We warn the meritorious CCSS workers, symbols of the Social and Democratic State, and activists of guaranteeing the health of the population that our beloved institution is at serious risk, on the one hand, due to the excessive political interference by the Government, and on the other, by the spurious mercantilist and privatizing interests, UNDECA denounces.
For this reason, the health sector union calls on all CCSS workers to speak out and vigorously defend institutional autonomy and demands immediate payment of the wage adjustment.
