The student federation decided, moreover, to take security and self-defense measures against the infiltration of provocateurs.
The student union decided to start occupying the buildings of the University of the Republic which, they said, suffer from the cut in the government budget.
A sit-in was planned at the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences, but a general assembly of students “was violently interrupted by a group of provocateurs,” said the Secretary of Communication, Andrés Fernández.
“The occupation of the faculty was proposed as a union measure to propose more budget for student scholarships, more teachers to address the lack of schedules and quotas, more rooms to be able to study and salary improvements for teachers and officials,” Fernandez commented. The assembly, however, was interrupted by “dangerous individuals with a strikebreaker attitude.”
The FEUU decided to suspend the occupation of the Faculty of Humanities, which will take place on Tuesday the 20th, at the start of other student actions.
