Onamet reported that it is strictly monitoring Fiona, which is located about 780 kilometers east of the Leeward Islands (Lesser Antilles), with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour with higher gusts.
Its current motion is toward the west at about 14 miles per hour and little change in intensity is to be expected over the next few days as it approaches our area.
The weather conditions for the Dominican territory will continue to be dominated by a high pressure system located in the North Atlantic, which reduces humidity and the occurrence of precipitation, but we cannot rule out the occurrence of slight cloudy increases with showers, especially in the northeast, southeast and the Central Cordillera.
For its part, the Ministry of Health activated its contingency plan for meteorological phenomena and instructed its dependencies on urgent measures in shelters and hospitals and urged the population to take precautionary measures in their homes and stay informed of the corresponding agencies.
