Venezuela rejects U.S. statement

Caracas, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela on Sunday rejected the statement by the U.S. State Department on Americans legitimately deprived of liberty in the South American nation for alleged responsibility in committing serious crimes.

According to the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, most of these people are convicted and confessed of the crimes they are being accused of.

The statement stressed that Venezuela is a democratic and social State of Law and Justice, where institutions exercise their constitutional and legal powers to probe and punish, with absolute guarantees of due process, any conduct involving a crime set forth in the national legal system, regardless of the alleged perpetrator´s nationality.

The citizens of the United States of America are no exception’. The statement described as regrettable that the U.S. authorities insist on their plan of conferring an unacceptable immunity to their nationals, in absolute disregard for the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples.

Venezuela, in all circumstances, will enforce the laws of the nation and its democratic institutions.

In this regard, the text vindicated ‘the open spaces and channels’ with the United States in the search for understanding on bilateral relationship issues.
