Cuban President to meet with Suriname’s Foreign Minister

Havana, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday met with Suriname's Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin who is on an official visit to Cuba.

At the meeting, the Cuban leader said “it´s a great pleasure to receive” Albert Ramdin, also serving as Business and International Cooperation Minister, while thanking Suriname for its strongly support for fighting off the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over 60 years.

President Díaz-Canel reaffirmed his country’s commitment and willingness to continue strengthening relations with the Caribbean.

“Caribbean nations are our closest brothers. The Caribbean does not split us, on the contrary, it brings us together,” he said. Plus, he acknowledged the firm stance of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) towards Cuba at the last Summit of the Americas held in the United States.

Meanwhile, Ramdin stressed that “we strongly believe in the unity and inclusion of the entire hemisphere. We do believe in unity and inclusion without conditions”.

Ramdin affirmed his government is very grateful to Cuba for cooperation it has provided.

On this day, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez and his Surinamese counterpart reaffirmed the friendship ties between both countries.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Ramdin´s official visit to Cuba will make it possible to strengthen friendship and cooperation relations between both nations in areas of mutual interest.
