Argentine Senate analyzes declaration over attack on vice-president

Senado-Argentina
Buenos Aires, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The Senate in Argentina will hold a special session on Thursday to analyze the approval of a declaration in repudiation of the assassination attempt on Cristina Fernández, vice-president and president of that Chamber of Congress.

According to the scheduled agenda, the meeting will take place at 11:00 hours, local time, at the request of the bloc Frente de Todos (Front for All).

On Saturday, the lawmakers condemned the attack on the former president and demanded that the event is immediately clarified, as well as the prosecution of those responsible.

Around 21:00 hours, local time, on September 1, a 35-year-old Brazilian citizen identified as Fernando Sabag pointed a gun at Fernandez’s head when she was greeting people gathered near her home in the Recoleta neighborhood in Buenos Aires to express their support for her.

During investigations of the case, experts determined that the gun was fit for use and had five bullets, but it failed to shoot. The accused refused twice to testify while the implication of other people is being investigated, including his girlfriend, Brenda Uliarte, who was also arrested.

On Friday, September 2, thousands of citizens marched through the main avenues in Buenos Aires towards the Plaza de Mayo to express their solidarity with Fernández, rejected all kinds of violence, and urged to stop hate speeches.
