As explained to Prensa Latina by Manuel Espinosa, the head of transportation of the Matanzas Territorial Fuel Marketing Division, the replacement of the two existing engines with new ones makes it possible to improve the operation of the fire-fighting system.
During the incident, the engines were activated but due to the magnitude of the event they suffered damages, with the replacement of these, advanced technology is installed at the same time, he said.
Espinosa explained that one of the engines is connected to a foaming system while the other is connected to a water system, which enables pumping to the tanks at the Supertanker Base.
The transport chief said that the pumps have a capacity of 1,500 and 750 cubic meters, respectively, the implementation of more resistant equipment will allow a better response to the possible occurrence of another accident.
It is expected that in the next few hours the first tests for the monitoring of the engines will be carried out in order to conclude the tasks that are vital for the functionality of the Supertanker Base, he said.
For Specialist B of the Osmary Suárez Division, the dismantling of the equipment is a complex but necessary task, the execution of electrical installations and all the technological gear will result in a better cooling system.
