Committee Head Abdelghani Aoun announced in a communiqué the setting up of a technical team to draw up a report and propose a strategy to fight the situation.
Aoun called for joint and coordinated actions to prevent the expansion of drought and desert in green areas.
The Libyan Center for Strategic Studies revealed a few days ago that the country will face a severe water crisis in the coming years due to an increase in human consumption and its limited reserves.
Ninety-five percent of the water consumed in Libya comes from underground sources, especially from the so-called artificial river, a network of pipes that transports water from the immense fossil deposits under the Sahara desert to the main cities.
Despite this mega-project, which costs 25-30 billion dollars, the country faces the risk of shortages due to infrastructure maintenance problems, the institution stated.
