Cuba prepares day for peace and against US blockade

Havana, Sept 1 (Prensa Latina) From September 2 to October 10, Cuba will be the center of a Day for Peace and against the US economic blockade, representatives of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) reported today.

Peace, the fight against terrorism in any of its manifestations and the rejection of the US siege will focus the activities of these days, said the vice president of ICAP, Víctor Gaute, at a press conference.

He added that they will also be days of recognition of all those who have been at the side of the Caribbean nation in the most difficult moments, who show day by day that solidarity will continue to prevail and is an extraordinary strength.

He referred in particular to the aid received to deal with the fire that occurred on August 5 at the supertanker base in Matanzas (west), the donations to mitigate the effects of Washington’s hostile policy against the island in sensitive aspects such as health, and the international mobilizations in favor of the elimination of the blockade.

Meanwhile, the director of Communication and Heritage of ICAP, Tamara Velázquez, explained that the activities seek to extend recognition of the historical commitment of the Cuban Revolution with the maintenance of world peace, respect for the sovereignty of peoples and nuclear disarmament. ; as well as increasing solidarity against the US economic blockade.

The actions begin this Friday, September 2, with a tribute to the Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, on the 77th anniversary of that country’s declaration of independence, and continue with a tribute to the young Italian Fabio Di Celmo, on September 4, 25. years after his assassination in a terrorist attack on a hotel in Havana.

Other planned activities are a tribute to Salvador Allende, Agostinho Neto and Reverend Lucius Walker, as well as a day of solidarity with Puerto Rico and the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the blowing up of a Cuban plane from Barbados, which caused the death of 73 people.

The defense of peace and sovereignty, support for the just causes of other peoples of the world and international solidarity with Cuba in the face of the economic blockade will also be expressed on ICAP’s digital platforms and social networks, which will promote exchanges in these scenarios.
