President of Venezuela praises brotherhood with Cuba

Caracas, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro today highlighted the brotherhood between his country and Cuba, and the solidarity and anti-imperialist struggle that unites them.

“Venezuela and Cuba are brotherly peoples, willing to promote development and common growth. Our revolutionary, Fidelista, Martí, Chavista and Bolivarian feeling, and the great level of consciousness, unite us in solidarity and anti-imperialist struggle,” wrote the head of state on his Twitter account.

Maduro received the day before at the Miraflores Palace, headquarters of the Executive, a delegation from the Caribbean island chaired by Vice Prime Minister Alejandro Gil, who was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade Roberto López and the Havana ambassador here, Dagoberto Rodríguez .

The meeting served to demonstrate the deep relations of friendship and strategic cooperation between both countries and took place as part of the work agenda of the also Minister of Economy and Planning during his visit to Caracas since last August 24.

Gil also spoke with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez in order to review the progress of bilateral relations, and then met with officials from the Havana embassy to address issues on the Cuban reality and shared with Cuban collaborators at the Comprehensive Diagnostic Center Salvador Allende.

Vice President Rodríguez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, and the head of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Calixto Ortega, attended the meeting at the Miraflores Palace on the Venezuelan side.

The president of the Development and Exports Bank and the Venezuelan Foreign Trade Corporation, Héctor Obregón, also participated.

Venezuela and Cuba maintain an extensive exchange of cooperation in different sectors that include health, economy, education, sports, communication, food, science and energy.

The Comprehensive Cuba-Venezuela Cooperation Agreement emerged in October 2000 at the initiative of commanders Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) under the principles of solidarity, brotherhood and complementarity.

In its two decades of implementation, it has been strengthened despite the challenges imposed by the US blockade against both countries, increased in recent years with new coercive measures that violate the principles of international law and the peaceful coexistence of peoples.
