SENER explains on its website that the state company will be in charge of exploiting this strategic mineral and stated that the country has relevant reserves of a vital raw material for energy storage.

He indicated that Mexico aims at the exploring, exploiting, using lithium and benefitting from it, as well as administering and controlling economic value chains. The decree was published yesterday in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

Estimates from the Mexican Geological Service (SGM) indicate that there are lithium deposits in 18 states of the country, called by some as the oil of the future because it will be essential to promote electromobility and energy storage with a view to carrying out various activities.

The head of the Mexican Geological Service will also have a place as a permanent guest, but without vote. All the members of the Council will hold their positions on an honorary basis, for which they will not receive financial compensation.

The decree will enter into force in August 24th, which is why LitioMx has a term to start functions no later than 180 calendar days, while the Board of Directors will be installed in a period not exceeding 60 calendar days.
