Bogota, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) Colombia´s National Health Institute (INS) has confirmed at least 273 cases of monkeypox virus in the country.

The INS detailed that most of registered monkeypox cases were found in Bogota (227 cases).

According to the INS, as many as 699 possible cases were analyzed, 273 of them came back positive, 184 patients are suspicious cases.

Colombia´s first three cases were confirmed on June 23, and on July 26 the government raised transmission risk from moderate to high.

Fever, sore throat, headache, muscle pain and cough are some of the first symptoms, as well as weakness and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, groin and armpits.

Rash and painful blisters on the face, arms and legs then appear seven to 14 days after infection. The disease can last two to four weeks and has milder symptoms than smallpox.

Nowadays, there are no specific treatments for monkeypox virus infection, although it´s a generally benign disease and symptoms usually disappear spontaneously.
