The Prosecutor’s Office involves Castillo himself, as the main accused, the Minister of Transport and former Housing Minister, Geiner Alvarado, Lilia Paredes and two of her brothers in the case of alleged irregular contracts from the Ministry of Housing.
“There are people who pass themselves off as saying they come from the people, they grab a space of the people and get rich, help us identify them and we have to punish them,” Castillo said. He also assured that “we have not given any space or endorsement so that on behalf of Pedro Castillo they are entering a ministry to get revenue for their pockets.”
Castillo maintains that the investigations he faces for alleged corruption are the product of a conspiracy between the Prosecutor’s Office and sectors of Parliament and the press that, from the beginning of his administration, have tried to get Congress to dismiss him, due to his humble origins and because he is alien to the power groups.
