Angola-elecciones
Luanda, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) The Angolan Parliament is finalizing its 4th mandate period in the midst of the campaign for the general elections set to take place next August 24th, in which more than 14 million voters are expected to participate.

The president of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, must present a summary evaluation of the performance of the Parliament throughout the five years of his mandate during the closure session.

During the period, the deputies approved a partial revision of the Constitution of the Republic and modifications to the electoral legislation, which will allow the participation of the Angolan diaspora for the first time in the 2022 general elections.

According to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), the final list contemplates 14,399,391 citizens, including some 22,500 residents abroad.

The elections on August 24th will serve to select the occupants of the 220 seats of the National Assembly and the presidency and vice-presidency of the Republic, with a view to the period 2022-2027.

The candidacies of eight political forces in competition are the ruling MPLA, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, the Social Renewal Party, the National Liberation Front of Angola and the National Patriotic Alliance.

The list is completed by the Angolan Humanist and Nationalist for Justice in Angola parties and the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola-Electoral Coalition group.
