China protests at G-7 over Taiwan criticism

Deng-Li
Beijing, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) China protested before the ambassadors of the European Union and Japan, and against the statements by the Group of Seven (G-7) over the reaction to Taiwan following a visit by United States Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, official sources reported on Friday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Deputy Foreign Minister Deng Li called diplomats for consultations and complained that the bloc’s communiqué is an interference in the country’s internal affairs, and sends the wrong signal to the secessionist forces.

It also firmly rejected criticisms, demanded respect for the “One China” principle, and stressed that Pelosi’s tour was a political maneuver and violates China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The G-7 expressed concern about a communiqué that “China’s threatening actions carry the risk of unnecessary escalation.”

Both Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Chinese missions in the European Union and Japan opposed the criticism and emphasized that the United States is responsible for changing forever the status quo in the area.
