Official sources announced that the traffic restrictions near the West Bank remain in force on Wednesday, while the military presence in the area was reinforced.
On Monday night, Israeli troops arrested the head of the Islamic Jihad group in the West Bank, Bassam al-Saadi, triggering demonstrations and harsh condemnations from various Palestinian sectors.
Al-Saadi was arrested in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank during a raid that sparked clashes and killed a Palestinian minor.
The Safa news agency announced that as part of the measures taken, the Tel Aviv authorities suddenly closed the Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings in northern and southern Gaza, respectively.
The army also paralyzed road traffic near the borders with that territory, and rail traffic between the cities of Ashkelon and Sderot. It also prohibited beach-goers from visiting the Zkim beach.
Various organizations such as the Islamic Resistance Movement and the Democratic and Popular Fronts for the Liberation of Palestine warned Israel of the consequences of the arrest and called to continue the fight against the occupation.
